Wow…. DreamCarXchange is thrilled present this one-owner, 23k mile 1989 944 S2 Coupe. This 944 S2 is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and is finished in the classic Guards Red over Black Leather interior color combination. It was purchased with an original MSRP of $43,701 from Jack Daniels Motors Inc in Fairlawn NJ in June 1989 by the one and only owner and has resided in New Jersey ever since. It currently shows 23,236 miles. The selling dealer is selling it on the owner’s behalf. It comes with the original window sticker, original odometer statement original purchase agreement and full maintenance history. It has a clean CARFAX and is being sold with a clean New Jersey title.
The S2 version of the popular 944 was introduced in 1989. It included a new naturally aspirated, dual-overhead-cam 16-valve 3.0 L version (M44/41) of the 944 S engine that produced 208 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque as quoted by Porsche. It was the largest 4-cylinder production engine and also the most powerful normally aspirated 4-cylinder in the world at the time. A rear mounted 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels.
Below are YouTube links to a cold-start video and a video of the car driving:
Other updates to the S2 included a revised transmission, front bumper and rear valance as found on the 944 Turbo. This S2 is equipped with the optional sport shock absorbers with the standard Design 90 16″ wheels that are wrapped in brand new Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires.
The interior of this example is finished in black partial leather front seats. The car is completely stock other than the built in Bel radar detector, and includes the Blaupunkt Charleston cassette radio.
The selling dealer states the overall condition of this car to be outstanding, exactly how you would hope a 23k mile, 30+ year old Porsche to look and drive. Powertech in Rockaway, NJ completed an inspection of the car and found it to be “almost perfect”. The result of the inspection was for the selling dealer installing the new tires mentioned earlier (due to age of old tires), installation of new wipers and correcting the passenger side windshield washer. A Bid with Confidence inspection report was completed and can be found in the tab above. The underside of the front bumper cover shows little to no scraping or scuffing.
The seller states that the rear hatch near the 944 S2 emblem was dented early in the car’s life (sometime in 1989 or 1990) and the owner had it repaired/painted by a Porsche dealer. All other paint appears to be factory as indicated by a paint meter, with pictures available in the gallery.
The car has been maintained throughout its life with extensive documentation to be provided to the new owner. It contains stamps in the maintenance book, a few invoices from the 90’s and invoices from Powertech from 2001 through current. The latest belts and rollers service was completed by Powertech in October 2018 at just under 23k miles. The cam and balance belts are scheduled for readjustment in 1300 miles.
The car comes with the original window sticker, original odometer statement and original bill of sale. In addition, the car has the the original compressor, full toolkit, plastic gloves and bags.
You can download the clean CARFAX from the Key Specifications table above and make sure you check out the 150+ pictures found in the “Pictures” tab above. Cars like this don’t come up that often, so bid often on this pristine, low-mile, original owner 944S2 to make it yours!

Hi – Is there anything that needs to be addressed with the car at all?
No, the car literally needs nothing at the moment. When Powertech inspected it, the only things that were identified were the tires, wipers and wiper jet and all have been taken care of. The only thing noted is that the belts will need to be readjusted in about 1,300 miles. Let me know if you have any other questions.
