DreamCarXchange is absolutely thrilled to represent to you a very special car… It is believed to be the Special Wishes 911 that John Oates (of Hall & Oates) custom spec’d at the Porsche factory, as mentioned in a recent Automobile Magazine feature about John Oates’ love for cars https://www.automobilemag.com/news/john-oates-car-collection-rod-emory-outlaw-356-amelia-island/. The car is finished in Pearl White with custom Mercedes Dove Grey interior. This the second time the selling dealer is offering this car for sale. The first was in late 2013 when it was purchased by its most recent owner in December 2013, who put on approximately 5k miles since then as currently the odometer reads 37,687 miles. It has an accident-free CARFAX and is being sold with a clean New Jersey title.
Exterior features include a front chin spoiler, amber rear turn lenses and the custom Pearl White paint.
The interior of this one-of-a-kind 911 has unique items such as the custom Mercedes Dove Grey leather interior (with deviated black carpeting and black upper dash/door caps), sport seats, special full leather 3-spoke steering wheel with colored crest, and gear shift knob with colored crest.
The option code sticker can be found under the front hood, indicating the custom L999 paint and 99 interior codes.
The 3.2 liter flat six cylinder engine was rated by Porsche when new at 200 HP @ 5,900 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpm and is mated to the type 915 5-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer states that it pulls strong and the clutch and transmission feel as they should.
Below is a link to YouTube videos showing the engine idling and revving.
Updated December 15th, walk around video:
The Warranty & Maintenance book indicates that the first owner was John Oates, with an address in Bridgewater, CT, and was delivered on September 18, 1984 by the selling dealer Autohaus Rochester Inc, in East Rochester NY. It also includes a few maintenance stamps up until August 1988.
Powertech in Rockaway, NJ completed a service of the car in December 2019 that included addressing a no-start issue and a brake fluid change. Powertech has serviced this car for a number of years as two owners ago (who bought the car back in the 1990’s) also had the serviced by them. The most recent owner also just had the wheels refinished with the centers painted black. The wheels are wrapped with 205 mm wide front and 245 mm wide rear Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires, with date codes from 2013.
The CARFAX can be downloaded from the Key Specifications table above, it show no accidents but indicates a mileage inconsistency in the 1990’s which the seller believes is a result of clerical errors. Make sure you see the additional pictures found in the “Pictures” tab above. Here’s your chance to a truly one-of-a-kind air-cooled 911 originally custom ordered and owned by rock and roll legend, John Oates! Don’t let this opportunity pass you by!!!
Special Wishes car custom specced in Stuttgart by John Oates of Hall & Oates!!!! The pictures do not do this color justice, it is simply gorgeous... This is a REALLY nice example, both cosmetically and mechanically. Very minor blemishes on the exterior as pointed out in a few pictures. The interior is very clean with the exception of the wear on the shift knob and the warping of the rear deck. Truly a one-of-a-kind 911 Coupe!
